BROOKLYN, MICHIGAN — Sunday the NASCAR Cup Series Race was at the Michigan International Speedway for the 54th Annual FireKeepers Casino 400 and after 65 winless races “The Closer” Kevin Harvick of Stewart-Haas Racing drove his Ford Mustang to Victory Lane. Harvick’s win was the eighth straight at MIS for Ford, and will likely qualify him for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoff. Harvick is the only driver to have earned a postseason spot every year since the current elimination format was introduced in 2014, ironically the same year he that he won the series title.
NASCAR Cup Playoff Standings and GFT Ranking Models Shift
With an 11th place finish, Chase Elliott still remains at the top of both the NASCAR Cup Driver Standings and our GFT AI Driver Rankings. However, Martin Truex Jr., who finished 6th on Sunday, fell 9 spots to P17 as a result of Harvicks win and how the points (and weighting) impact the rankings and who is going to qualify for the post-season.
With the win, Kevin Harvick moves up 6 spots to P9, Hamlin moves up 4 spots to P9, and Ryan Blaney remains the only driver in the top 16 without a win with 3 races to go in the regular season.
