MEXICO CITY, MEXICO — For the 2nd week 2023 F1 Champion Max Verstappen did not start from Pole position, but a wild opening lap resulted in Verstappen assuming the lead and eventually his 16th win of 2023. The victory sets a new record for most wins in an F1 season by Verstappen, but drama continues for Red Bull Racing with the opening lap crash between Checo Perez and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc.

UPDATED GFT F1 AI Driver Rankings after Round 20- Mexico City GP

No change at the top of the GFT F1 AI Rankings, but worth noting the Checo Perez DNF and Lewis Hamilton’s P2 finish continues to narrow the gap — now down to 20 points placing Hamilton in striking range of overtaking Perez in Driver points with 3 races remaining (Brazil, Las Vegas, and Abu Dhabi). Also worth noting was the strong drive by Daniel Ricciardo to a 7th place finish, moving him up 4 spots to P17 in the rankings with the 6 World Championship points scored.

Winners Quote

“To be honest, we of course are experiencing an incredible season,” said Verstappen. “And today of course we had to start P3, but I think the pace of the car was very, very good.

“We tried to do a different strategy to everyone else and unfortunately with the red flag we couldn’t really show it. Nevertheless, on those hard tyres at the end, I think we were very, very strong.”
