AUTODROMO NAZIONALE MONZA, ITALY — After starting P2, it took 15 laps to make his move, but Max Verstappen saw an opening when Sainz bobbled under braking, and he pounced. After taking the lead from Sainz, Verstappen opened up an ever-increasing lead to secure the victory. Meanwhile Red Bull Racing teammate Checo Perez battled it out against the two Ferrari’s for the remaining podium spots. Perez ultimately prevailed and secured 2nd place with Sainz holding on for 3rd place.
It was the sixth time Red Bull delivered a 1–2 finish this season.
LITTLE CHANGE IN THE RANKINGS
There were 3 changes in the rankings after Monza: Oscar Piastri finished 12th and led a lap resulting in a move up one spot on our models to P11. Estaban Ocon drops one spot to P12, and Liam Lawson’s 11th place finish moves him to P20 while the injured Danny Recardo drops out (technically P21) in the GFT rankings.
That was a new one! Tsunoda blows an engine … on the formation lap!
In one of the stranger moments at the start of an F1 Grand Prix, Yuki Tsunoda was forced to abandon the race before it even started. The Alpha Tauri driver turned his car into the grass on the formation lap, delaying the start of the GP by about 20 minutes.
