LOS ANGELES, CA — In an unprecedented move, NASCAR announced this afternoon that its historic doubleheader, originally scheduled for Sunday at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, will be run tonight.
Due to the forecast of a significant storm with days of heavy rain expected, the NASCAR Cup Series’ Busch Light Clash was run Saturday night and followed by the NASCAR Mexico Series’ King Taco LA Batalla en El Coliseo.
Denny Hamlin, who was also won the Pole in qualifying, was the race winner after he got the jump in the overtime restart, winning the third edition of the Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum.
“I got a really good run off Turn 2 and just got position and was able to hang on from there,” Hamlin said after the Lap 141 restart. “It’s so chaotic on the restarts, with everyone bumping and banging, but it’s great to win here in L.A.”
“It’s just a great momentum boost. It doesn’t do much more than that, but I clean off all the trophies every January 1 in the entryway to the house, and now we get to add one pretty quick, so I’m really happy about that.”
The official NASCAR season opens in 2 weeks with the Daytona 500
