SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT, GREAT BRITAIN — It was a home win for Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton who captured his first win since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and his 9th career victory at Silverstone.
A very emotional Hamilton broke down on the cool-down lap and his emotions ran high throughout the post-race ceremonies- “I can’t stop crying!” said Hamilton. “It’s been since 2021, every day getting up, trying to fight, to train, to put my mind to the task and work as hard as I can with this amazing team. This is my last race here at the British Grand Prix with this team, so I wanted to win this so much for them, because I love them, I appreciate them so much, all the hard work they’ve been putting in all over these years.
“I’m forever grateful to everyone in this team, everyone at Mercedes, all of our partners. Otherwise, to all our incredible fans… I could see you lap by lap as I was coming around, and there’s just no greater feeling [than] to finish at the front here."
GFT F1 AI Driver Rankings after the British GP
For the 2nd straight week, Mercedes takes the win, yet defending champion Max Verstappen is still scoring points and extending his lead in F1 Driver Points and in our GFT AI Driver Rankings. Norris, Leclerc, and Sainz all remain potential threats as Verstappen and Red Bull Racing’s streak of wins has been interrupted.
Next Race
Next on the 2024 F1 calendar is the Hungarian Grand Prix in Hungaroring on July 21.
