YAS MARINA CIRCUIT, ABU DHABI, UAE— The Formula 1 season came to a close in a thriller as Lando Norris dominated the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, securing McLaren’s first constructors’ championship since 1998. The British driver led from flag to flag grabbing his 4th win of the year, capping off a strong season with a dominant drive. The victory also marked a historic moment for McLaren, ending their 26-year drought for the team championship.

With the Driver’s Championship secured weeks ago in Las Vegas and a win last week at the Qatar GP, Max Verstappen, some analysts argued, had little motivation, however his aggressive move on the opening lap told a different story. The incident put the season champion deep in the field, but he fought back to finish 6th.

The season finale in Abu Dhabi was not without its drama. Early chaos ensued when Oscar Piastri, Norris’ teammate, was spun around by Max Verstappen at the start, dropping him to the back of the pack. This incident saw Verstappen receive a penalty. Meanwhile, McLaren’s strategy and Norris’ race management were spot-on, keeping former teammate Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc at bay. Sainz finished second, providing a poignant farewell to Ferrari, with Leclerc clinching third after a remarkable recovery from 19th on the grid.

The victory was a statement of McLaren’s resurgence, driven by their strategic decisions and Norris’ consistent performance throughout the season. The team’s focus now shifts to maintaining this momentum into the next year, aiming to challenge for both drivers’ and constructors’ championships in 2025.
